I've been playing Grand Theft Auto IV over the weekend and enjoying it quite a bit. I could never really get into the previous ones that I'd tried - I'm not quite sure why. I'm rather into the story for this one and it's pretty cool.
Here's some things I've found:
- Liberty City - The city that GTA IV takes place in a city called 'Liberty City' which is pretty much like New York City. They've basically done a caricature of NYC with an amazing amount of detail. There's a round-about in the city that has a version of the Brookyn Public Library in it! Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the quality of the city.
- The Radio - The radio stations in the cars all have amazingly funny commentaries about the world as it is today. 'Why should I learn to control my urges when I can take pills to do it all for me?' one asks. I'm sure people would find these offensive, but generally, they seem to be pretty accurate.
- Absurd Situations - Apparently, the 'mission' lines are completely separate from what you do outside of them. So, I pick a woman up to go on a date, and mow down dozens of people on the way to the date, and she doesn't even comment. It can lead to some hilarious times when the woman is commenting 'I'm having a great time' as you mow down a sidewalk full of people.
- The Bugs - There's a ton of bugs in the game. Cars will randomly appear 10-20 feet off the ground, then drop to the ground. You'll walk up to a hot-dog vendor, and it'll take 20-30 seconds for the vendor to appear. The routing of the characters is funny sometimes, too.
Overall, it's a been a lot of fun. If you like games, and have a 360/PS3, it's worth checking out.
