How far did I walk?

So, I've started trying to do more exercising lately, and one of the things that's kind of difficult when walking is trying to figure out how far you've walked. You can buy pedometers, but they generally work basically by use of a weighted contraption on a spring that flicks a switch when you walk. With a good one, you can set your stride lengths, so the impact of you hitting the ground makes the counter increment.

I had bought one a few years ago, and found that they generally don't work so well for my use. They might work fine if I were walking on a track or someplace where I was flat-out waking, but when walking on the sidewalks of New York City, I found I ended up taking a lot of half steps to walk around people and whatnot.

When I bought the pedometer last, I don't know if Google maps existed yet or not, but tonight I decided to look to see if someone made a way to measure things on the maps. And, someone has! Way to go Lazyweb!

It's gmap-pedometer.com. You can simply map out where you've been and it will tell you the distance. It won't be absolutely perfect, but, I'm guessing it's going to be more accurate than a pedometer. So, I walked a total of around 4.7 miles today.
